What is isarplay?

One email on Wednesday. A better weekend.

Friday evening. The kids ask: “What are we doing this weekend?”

Munich has a huge amount on for active families: sports clubs, city programmes, camps, courts and the mountains right on the doorstep. But the information is scattered across club websites, Instagram, parents' group chats and holiday portals, and most of it is only in German.

isarplay pulls it together. Every Wednesday evening we send one short email with the best ideas for the weekend and the weeks ahead, matched to your kids' ages, your interests and your part of town. Each tip comes with age group, price and a link.

About the language

German for now. English is on its way.

Right now isarplay is written in German, in short, simple sentences with dates, ages, prices and links, so it works well with your browser's or email app's translate button. As soon as enough readers choose “English” when signing up, we'll start a regular English edition with the same tips, plus short notes on what to expect language-wise.

Your choice is saved with your sign-up, so you'll automatically get the English edition once it starts.

Useful tips

New to Munich's club scene?

Look for “Schnuppertraining”

Many clubs (Vereine) offer a free or low-cost trial session, called Schnuppertraining or Probetraining. It's the easiest way to see if a sport and a group fit before you commit.

Just ask about English

Sessions usually run in German. It's always worth asking the club whether a coach can help out in English. A short email before the first session takes away a lot of the nerves, for you and the kids.

Clubs mean membership

After a few trial sessions, clubs usually expect you to join as a member (Mitglied). Fees vary, so check the joining process and notice period on the club's website.

Plan ahead for the holidays

Popular camps and swimming courses can fill up weeks in advance. That's exactly why the newsletter flags registration deadlines (Anmeldung) early.

Free and familiar: parkrun

If you know parkrun from home: it exists in Munich too. A free, timed 5 km every Saturday morning, open to walkers, joggers and runners. Register once and bring your barcode.

FAQ

Questions

What does it cost?

Nothing. The newsletter is free and will stay free.

When does it arrive?

Once a week, on Wednesday evenings, so you can plan the weekend.

How do you choose the tips?

We go through public offers from clubs, city programmes and providers. An AI tool helps us find, sort and summarise them, and we check dates and links before sending. Please always confirm binding details like prices and free places directly with the provider.

Is it useful without kids?

Yes. Choose “Just me” and, for example, padel, pickleball & tennis or winter & skiing, and you'll get tips for active grown-ups.

What data do you store?

Your email address and, if you provide them, age groups, interests, postcode and preferred language. We use them only to tailor your issue. We don't sell or share data. This website sets no cookies and uses no trackers, and we don't measure opens or clicks in the newsletter.

How do I unsubscribe?

Every issue has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click is enough. You can also email hallo@isarplay.de.
